• Documents You'll Need

  To apply for a medical window tint exemption in Georgia, you'll need:

  • Completed Application Form DPS-431, attested by physician/optometrist
  • Physician or optometrist letter on official letterhead explaining why your condition requires visible light reduction
  • Vehicle information: year, make, VIN, and license plate number

  The Physician's Letter must be completed by one of the following:

  • Licensed physician (MD or DO)
  • Licensed optometrist

  Note: Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and LPNs are NOT authorized to sign the certification in Georgia.

  Standard Georgia Tint Limits (Without Exemption):

  • Windshield: Non-reflective tint permitted only on the top 6 inches.

  • Back Side Windows: Minimum 32% VLT for sedans; SUVs and vans may use any darkness.

  With a Medical Exemption:

  • Front Side Windows: May be tinted as dark as 23% VLT (±3% tolerance).
